Zach LaVine (6’4, 2013 UCLA commit) is the #1 ranked player in Washington and 51st in the country. He attends Bothell High School in Bothell, Washington along with Idaho commit Perrion Callandret. He played his AAU ball with FOH Seattle. I had the chance to interview Zach.
ZH: Tell us a little bit about your game for those who haven’t seen you play.
ZL: Well I’m a 6’4″ 175 lbs combo guard, I have been told to have a great skill set and a gifted scorer. I am very athletic and my best weapon is my shot.
ZH: What’s your biggest strength/weakness?
ZL: My shot is my biggest strength, I need to get stronger so that’s why my speed and quickness also help me on the court.
ZH: When you committed to UCLA, what made you realize it was the right school for you?
ZL: When I committed to UCLA, I was just happy to get it over with, I have a lot of family down there and it seemed like the right fit.
ZH: How is your season going so far?
ZL: My season is going good, with me being the top player in the state and top 25-50 in the county teams come after you so u have to be on your “Ps and Qs”. Our team is 6-0 and #1 in state.
ZH: What’s your favorite NBA team? Player?
ZL: My favorite NBA player is Kobe Bryant and favorite team is the Lakers, I try to immolate some of Kobe’s game into mine as well. Yet I also play like Deron Williams but more athletic.
ZH: Any underrated players in your area we should be watching for?
ZL: Perrion Callandret my best friend and teammate is going to Idaho and also DJ Fenner also a close friend who’s going to Nevada.
ZH: Thanks for the interview Zach!
ZL: No problem!
LaVine joins Allerik Freeman and Noah Allen in UCLA’s 2013 class. Senior PG Larry Drew will be gone next year which will free up around 33 minutes per game; LaVine can come in and make an immediate impact right off the bat. He is definitely a freshman to watch next year.
